Brain drain reversed? President courts talent for Moldovan future
In a heartfelt appeal to young Moldovans living abroad, President Maia Sandu urged them to return home and contribute to the country's modernization and European integration.
Sandu met with Moldovan students and professionals residing in Timișoara, Romania, on Friday, sparking a lively discussion about the nation's future.
"It was inspiring to see so many passionate about developments back home," Sandu remarked. "I encouraged them to consider returning and leveraging their skills and dedication to help us build a better Moldova. We need their enthusiasm and commitment as we embark on this crucial journey towards modernization and EU membership."
The meeting showcased the growing diaspora's continued interest in Moldova's trajectory. Sandu acknowledged this connection, stating, "The commitment of our citizens abroad is invaluable. Their success reflects well on our nation and fuels our collective aspirations for a brighter future."
Beyond national pride, Sandu also celebrated individual achievements within the community. She expressed particular appreciation for Roman Zgardan and Demian Răileanu, two Timișoara-based figures instrumental in propelling Moldovan Greco-Roman wrestling to new heights.
"Their dedication to promoting values like discipline and perseverance shines through in the champions they nurture," Sandu commended. "Their contribution to Moldovan sports excellence is truly inspiring."
President Sandu's visit to Timișoara continues this weekend, with a scheduled award ceremony honouring her advocacy for European values. She will also visit Arad and grace Săvârșin Castle as a guest of Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown.
