Romania to help Moldovan farmers with drought relief
Moldovan farmers who were affected by the drought in 2022 will receive diesel from Romania, according to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea.
Bolea said that a contract to store the diesel will be signed on January 18, 2024, and that distribution will begin shortly thereafter.
"Each hectare of land that was planted with autumn cereals in 2022 will receive 40 litres of diesel," Bolea said. "One million lei has been allocated to cover the costs, and we believe that the State Reserves Agency will receive the diesel from Romania by the end of January."
The State Reserves Agency previously announced that it held two public procurement procedures on September 18 and October 4, 2023, to acquire the services of receiving, storing, and preserving 4,000 tons of diesel through the "Achiziții.md" platform. However, both procedures were cancelled due to a lack of bidders.
Bolea also announced that the authorities are working on a new decision that will provide additional assistance to farmers who were affected by the drought. The total amount of assistance is expected to be 50 million lei.
