Falcon 10 crashes in Badakhshan province
A Falcon 10 medical plane chartered from Gaya, India, to Tashkent-Yuzhny in Uzbekistan has disappeared from radar over Afghanistan, Rosaviatsia, the Russian aviation authority, said.
According to preliminary data, six people were on board - four crew members and two passengers, the BBC reports. The plane is believed to have crashed in Badakhshan province.
Searches are currently underway to find the plane. Rosaviatsia said it is in contact with the aviation authorities of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of Tajikistan.
The plane is registered in the Russian state registry of civil aircraft, Rosaviatsia said.
Police in northern Afghanistan received a report of a plane crash in Badakhshan province, a provincial police spokesman told Reuters on Sunday. The accident occurred at night in an isolated mountainous area of Badakhshan, in the northeastern part of the country, he said.
According to media reports, the plane deviated from course and crashed into a mountain in Zebak district, about 30-40 kilometres from the border with Tajikistan and over 100 kilometres from Faizabad, the centre of Badakhshan province. Before the crash, the pilot reported technical problems.
