The inflation rate exceeded 30% in December 2022. Vegetables, meat, eggs and dairy products cost us more
Annual inflation in our country exceeded 30% last year. According to the Report on the increase in consumer prices, published by the National Bureau of Statistics, the increase in average consumer prices was determined by the increase in tariffs for services provided to the population, but also by the increase in food prices.
More important increases, 44%, were registered in the services provided to the population and communal-housing services. According to the NBS, the determining reason was the increase in the electricity tariff. Compared to December 2021, the tariff has increased almost three times.
At the same time, the tariff for natural gas doubled, and the price of food products increased by almost 32% during the year, for non-food products - by almost 20%. The increase was driven by the increase in fuel prices.
In the category of food products, the biggest price increases occurred in vegetables, fruits, eggs and sugar. The price for these products has increased by 1.5 times. Also, the price of bakery and pastry products increased by 37%, and the price of meat and dairy products increased by more than 20%.
The National Bureau of Statistics noted that inflation slowed down in December, and compared to November it was only 0.8 percent.
According to the forecasts of the National Bank of Moldova, this year inflation will decrease. In the first quarter of 2023, it will reach 25%, and for the second quarter an inflation of almost 17% is forecast.
