U.S. ambassador: Local leaders key to Moldova's development, EU integration
U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent Logsdon praised the impact of local leaders on the country's development, saying they are the ones who will lead Moldova on its European path.
"We have a saying in the United States: all politics is local. This is also true for Moldova. Resilient and responsive local authorities demonstrate the benefits of democracy in the daily lives of Moldovan citizens. We know that Moldovans trust local leaders. I believe that you, local leaders, are the ones who will continue to lead Moldova on the path of integration into the European Union. That is why the United States is working to strengthen the capacity of local administrations in Moldova to serve their citizens better," said the American ambassador.
The U.S. official also referred to international projects, funded by the United States, that are directly focused on supporting local public authorities. The ambassador cited as an example the "Leader" program, which includes about 50% of the country's localities. "This program helps citizens in rural areas to start businesses that allow people to live and prosper in their villages," Kent Logsdon pointed out.
In the end, the diplomat pointed out that Moldova is on the right track to Europe, and the United States is proud to collaborate with local leaders such as the mayors of Edinet, Straseni, and others.
