Russia Denies Navalny's Body To Mother
Alexei Navalny's mother has been unable to recover her son's body following his death in an Arctic prison, according to an associate of the late Russian opposition leader.
Kira Yarmysh stated that Navalny's mother, Ludmila, was informed the body would only be released after a post-mortem examination, the BBC. reports.
Navalny's team believes the anti-corruption activist was killed on President Vladimir Putin's orders.
The human rights organisation OVD-Info reports that 300 Russians have been arrested for paying their respects.
Western governments hold Russian authorities responsible for the sudden death of the 47-year-old opposition leader. Foreign ministers from the G7 group demanded Russia "urgently clarify" the circumstances of his death.
The Russian president has made no public comment since the Russian prison service announced Navalny's death on Friday in the remote IK-3 prison in the Arctic Circle.
