Moldova Boosts Air Defense, Buys Second Radar
Moldova will purchase a second high-performance air surveillance radar, scheduled to arrive in 2025, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi told Radio Europa Liberă.
The Ministry of Defense is also seeking an anti-aircraft defence system.
Radar Funded by European Union
Anatolie Nosatîi stated that the radar will be purchased with European funds (EPF). It will be a high-performance system that, along with existing systems, will enhance security.
First Modern Radar Acquired in 2022
In late 2022, Moldova acquired its first modern radar, manufactured by a French company and purchased from the state budget.
Heightened Security Concerns
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, there have been at least five cases of Russian missile debris falling on Moldovan territory, particularly in the northern and eastern regions. Russian missiles have also violated Moldovan airspace.
