Earth Hour. Millions of people, institutions and companies turn off their lights for an hour

Today, millions of people, institutions and companies turn off their lights for an hour, starting at 8:30 p.m., joining the Earth Hour event. The Republic of Moldova marks this event too.

According to a press release from the Ministry of the Environment, the symbolism of this day is manifested by turning off the lights for an hour and is a simple gesture to prove commitment to reducing energy consumption and combating climate change.

A study by the World Wide Fund for Nature reveals that turning off the electricity during Earth Hour reduced electricity consumption by an average of 4%. The study gathered information from 10 countries over 6 years. This year, institutions from more than 8,000 cities in 195 countries are joining this movement.

Since 2008, Earth Hour has become a global movement, including 100 million people in over 30 world countries.
