Easier Schengen Travel for Romanians, Checks Remain
Romanian citizens travelling by air and sea to countries within the Schengen Area will experience streamlined border procedures starting March 31.
Travellers can proceed directly to their boarding gates without the need to stop at Border Police checkpoints. Border police will continue to maintain a presence within airports and may still conduct random checks.
"Border police officers will remain present within airports and conduct occasional, random inspections to verify the identity and legal status of individuals. This is also done to prevent and combat potential illegal activity. Inspections will occur based on risk analysis or reasonable suspicion. In such instances, officers may establish a person's identity and conduct checks against operational databases. Officers will utilise mobile control devices for these verifications," explained Cornel Laurian Stoica, head of the Romanian Border Police.
To verify that Romanian minors and their accompanying persons possess the necessary travel documents, border police may carry out random checks within the airport area. Travel conditions remain unchanged for destinations outside the Schengen Area, with document checks continuing at designated Border Police checkpoints.
