The Republic of Moldova is a neutral country from military viewpoint, Romanian Minister of Defense
Bilateral military relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova are grounded in the neutrality status that Chisinau has adopted. This was stated by Romania's Minister of National Defense, Angel Tîlvăr, during discussions about the potential for Romania to defend the airspace of the Republic of Moldova.
"Moldova maintains military neutrality. We have a bilateral collaboration with the Republic of Moldova due to our close ties with the country. Romania has been actively involved, especially during the period when Moldova faced challenges caused by the war in Ukraine, impacting both its energy and economy. Romania has made significant contributions to ensure the stability and normalcy of life in the Republic of Moldova," stated the Romanian minister in an interview with Agerpres.
Since the onset of Russia's war against Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova's airspace has been violated by Russian missiles and drones targeting Ukrainian territory. The authorities in Chisinau have consistently condemned these violations of the Republic of Moldova's airspace, as well as the war initiated by Russia in Ukraine.
