Parliamentary Opposition Demands Hearings Over Integrity Concerns

The parliamentary opposition has formally requested hearings for both the President of the Pre-Vetting Commission, Herman von Hebel, and the Minister of Justice, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.

This request follows the recent publication of an investigation into allegations concerning von Hebel's integrity. Members of the opposition argue that the integrity allegations against Herman von Hebel, which were publicly refuted just before the Pre-Vetting Commission convened, could undermine the entire process of assessing magistrates.

During a parliamentary session, Veronica Roșca, Chairwoman of the Legal, Appointments, and Immunities Committee, explicitly stated that there appears to be an effort to perpetuate accusations that undermine the integrity of the pre-vetting procedure. Both initiatives brought forth by the opposition were dismissed by the parliamentary majority.

President Igor Grosu, addressing his opposition colleagues, urged them to allow von Hebel to continue his duties, emphasising his competence in performing them effectively.

The Anticorruption.md portal, citing international press sources, published a journalistic inquiry highlighting discrepancies in the CV of Herman von Hebel, President of the Pre-Vetting Commission.

Furthermore, it suggests that certain decisions made during his tenure at the International Criminal Court in The Hague may have been unlawful.

Consequently, the Pre-Vetting Commission issued a formal statement refuting the allegations made against its president, Herman von Hebel, as reported in the press.
