Russian Ministry Seeks Moldovan Aid in Notifying Mother of Fallen Soldier

The Ministry of Labour in the Russian region of Rostov has dispatched a letter to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Moldova, seeking assistance in notifying a resident of the Transnistrian region whose son perished in Ukraine while fighting on behalf of Russia, as reported by Europa Liberă with reference to a copy of the correspondence.

In the missive transmitted in February of the current year to Minister of Labour Alexei Buzu, Olga Poreadocinaia, the interim Minister of Labour of Rostov, implores Chisinau to inform the mother of Alexei Rusu, a 29-year-old individual hailing from Tiraspol, that her son met his demise on Ukrainian soil during the Russian invasion.

"The mother of Alexei is entitled to a one-time financial assistance of 2.4 million rubles (approximately $25,900 USD - ed.) from the region's budget," the official from Rostov states.

Representatives of the Ministry of Labour in Rostov have informed Europa Liberă that such letters are routinely dispatched to various countries. However, this marks the inaugural instance of such a correspondence being directed to Chisinau due to the absence of response from the Transnistrian region.

The press service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has authenticated the letter to Europa Liberă but refrained from confirming whether the institution had previously received similar requests from Russia.

Upon contact by Europa Liberă, the mother of Alexei Rusu, residing in Tiraspol, revealed from a brief conversation with the journalist that she had yet to be approached by any authority regarding financial compensation.

According to data compiled from public sources by Europa Liberă, at least 17 Moldovans (including those from the Transnistrian region) who served in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have lost their lives. Eight of the 17 individuals hailed from localities situated on the left bank of the Dniester and perished between the ages of 25 and 55. The remaining nine originated from the right bank of the Dniester, encompassing individuals from Chisinau, Balti, and villages within the Nisporeni and Ceadîr-Lunga districts.
