Volodymyr Zelensky requests the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to approve the new mobilization law
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy asked the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to "set aside populism" and approve the new mobilization law in the coming days after four months of debate, reports Pravda.com.
The Kiev leader said the delay was a "mistake" that made the mobilization issue "the main target of the Russian disinformation campaign" inside and outside Ukraine, contributing to the perception that Ukrainians do not want to defend their state.
"We are talking to the parliament so that they will vote on the relevant law in the coming days. This is very important. Under this law, the Russians managed to raise the issue that our people are not ready to continue to defend the state. And the West asks us - if you do not want mobilization, the parliament does not want to vote, then why do you need help? Why should we help?" Zelenski said.
Zelenski believes that this bill has divided society into two parts "into those who are for and those who are against, into military and civilians." He referred to "irresponsible" behavior on the part of the Rada of Ukraine and asked deputies to "calm down" and "not expect applause for their populism."
"If the law is not approved soon, it will be the parliament and not the military commanders who will have the responsibility to ensure that the country has the capacity to create enough reserves for the Armed Forces," he said.
