The announcement was made by Romanian Justice Minister Alina Gorghiu during an official meeting in Bucharest with her Moldovan counterpart, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, who is currently on a working visit to Romania.

"We are committed to supporting Moldova's European path by providing expert-level assistance from our ministry," Minister Gorghiu stated. "In the coming period, we will collaborate closely with our Moldovan colleagues to determine the specific areas and directions where our technical assistance will be most beneficial for achieving the justice reforms critical to Moldova's EU accession."

Moldovan Justice Minister Mihailov-Moraru emphasised the enduring value of the partnership between Romania and Moldova, particularly in the justice sector. "Today, we have reaffirmed our commitment to diversifying the forms of bilateral cooperation, with a continued focus on strengthening the actors and infrastructure within our respective justice systems," she said.

Furthermore, the two-day visit to Bucharest yielded an extension of the Bilateral Action Plan in the field of justice for an additional three years. This renewed plan prioritises continued cooperation towards Moldova's European integration goals. "Collaboration on crucial areas such as asset recovery and human rights will be central to the further development of this plan with our Romanian partners," Minister Mihailov-Moraru highlighted.

In a significant step towards enhanced cooperation, the officials announced the establishment of a liaison magistrate position within Moldova's justice system. This designated official will be responsible for facilitating cooperation on both civil and criminal cases between the two countries. Notably, around 1,000 cases were examined collaboratively by Romania and Moldova throughout the past year alone.
