Holy Light Ceremony: Miracle in Jerusalem
This year, the Holy Light was also lit, at 2:13 PM. The Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem emerged from the Holy Sepulcher carrying candles and shared the Holy Light with the gathered crowd.
Thousands of Christians from around the world converged on Jerusalem's Old City on Saturday to celebrate the Orthodox ceremony of the Holy Light. A heavy Israeli police presence was deployed for the occasion. The ceremony, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, typically draws thousands of believers to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, located in the heart of the Christian Quarter in East Jerusalem's Old City.
After hours of waiting, the ceremony reaches its climax when the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem emerges from the sealed tomb carrying a lit candle. The arrival of the Holy Light is considered a miracle that happens every year on Holy Saturday, before Orthodox Easter Sunday.
The Holy Light is then shared with the believers gathered inside and outside the church. The holy fire will arrive in Moldova around 8:00 PM.
