Moscow Denies War Crimes Accusations Amid ICC's Legal Battle
The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has been formally placed under search by the Russian Federation, as disclosed in a notification published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, citing compliance with the Penal Code.
However, the specific allegations against the Kiev leader remain undisclosed, though a pre-war photograph of Zelensky accompanied by personal data has been made public.
Since the onset of the conflict with Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has issued arrest warrants for several Ukrainian and European politicians, including the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court who, last year, issued a warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes.
In contrast, in March 2023, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued international arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin, alongside Maria Lvova Belova, the Commissioner for Children's Rights, both implicated in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russian territory.
Moscow vehemently denies accusations of its forces committing war crimes in Ukraine, maintaining that civilians are not intentionally targeted and offering humanitarian aid to those voluntarily seeking refuge from Ukraine.
