CSP interview test: Ion Munteanu won the contest for the position of general prosecutor

UPDATE: Interim General Prosecutor Ion Munteanu got the maximum score of 9.21 points. This was announced by the president of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) Dumitru Obadă.

The Superior Council of Prosecutors gave the highest score to the current acting general prosecutor, Ion Munteanu, in the competition for the position of general prosecutor of the Republic of Moldova.

Following the interview test, held on Thursday, May 30, the three candidates for the position of general prosecutor got the following points: Ion Munteanu – 9.21 points; Octavian Iachimovschi – 8.8 points; Alexandru Cernei – 7.92 points.

Candidates for the head of the General Prosecutor's Office are expected at the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) to pass the interview test. The three candidates, Ion Munteanu, Octavian Iachimovschi and Alexandru Cernei are to present the development plan of the General Prosecutor's Office.

Before being proposed to the president for appointment to the position, the candidate who gets the highest score, will be subjected to the test of ethical and financial integrity. The appointment of the Prosecutor General is one of the conditions for the start of the accession negotiations to the European Union.

We remind you that Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo was suspended in October 2021 and was released from office in September 2023. So far, several attempts to appoint the Prosecutor General have failed.

The last time was on February 28, when the results of the contest were annulled, after one of the applicants was disqualified for no reason.
