Germany Authorises Ukrainian Strikes: Zelensky Calls for Western Support
The German government has authorised Ukraine to conduct military strikes within the territory of the Russian Federation using weaponry of German origin, as reported by Der Spiegel.
Previously, the BBC reported that President Joe Biden of the United States tacitly sanctioned Ukraine's use of arms supplied by the US to target specific locations in Russia, albeit limited to the Kharkiv region. This information was corroborated by an American official in communication with the BBC.
During an interview with the Guardian, President Volodymyr Zelensky advocated for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to be granted the authority to engage Russia utilising weaponry provided by Western allies.
"This situation is unequivocally illogical. Despite our possession of arms, we are subjected to violence perpetrated by criminals and terrorists from the Russian side. It often appears as though they mock our predicament, likening it to a hunt - a hunt for human lives. They understand that we are aware of their actions, yet we remain impotent to retaliate with our weaponry," remarked Zelensky.
In recent days, an increasing number of Western nations have lifted restrictions on the use of their military assets to target Russian territory, which have been procured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
President Zelensky informed reporters from The Guardian that Britain has not yet provided unequivocal authorization to utilise its weaponry against Russia, awaiting a similar directive from the United States.
Simultaneously, President Zelensky underscored the inadequacy of American arms shipments to support additional Ukrainian brigades deployed to counter the Russian offensive in northeastern Ukraine.
