The prosecutor's office is examining the veracity of the information according to which Gorgan would have collaborated with Russia

The prosecutor's office is examining the veracity of the information from the investigation of "The Insider" journalists, who wrote that the former chief of the General Staff, Igor Gorgan, was an informant for Russian military espionage. The information was confirmed for "Teleradio-Moldova" by the spokeswoman of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Violina Moraru.

We remind you that The Insider revealed the correspondence on Telegram between Gorgan and the colonel of the foreign military intelligence service of the Russian Federation (GRU), Alexei Makarov. Using his old connections in the Moldovan Ministry of Defense, the two began to have particularly active contacts in April 2022, that is, after the start of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The GRU was particularly interested in weapons that Kiev was buying from neighboring countries, including the Republic of Moldova, according to the investigation. The Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) confirmed the information presented in the investigation on the eve.

The presidency in Chisinau condemned the "act of treason" and announced that it would withdraw Gorgan's state honors and military ranks. For his part, PAS deputy Andrian Cheptonar called on the military who would have cooperated with Gorgan and provided him with information, to surrender to the criminal investigation body.
