Moldovans Vote Today at Over 900 Romanian Polling Stations

Moldovans with Romanian citizenship are expected to vote today, June 9, at over 900 polling stations set up by Romania in the diaspora.

In the Republic of Moldova, 52 polling stations have been set up. Voting started at 07:00 and will end at 22:00.

At the Durlești polling station, before 07:00, more than 10 people were already waiting for it to open. Voters who are at the polling station at 22:00, as well as those waiting in line outside, can exercise their right to vote until 23:59.

The day before, the Romanian Embassy in Chișinău announced that there would be no polling stations at the diplomatic mission premises or at the Romanian Cultural Institute "Mihai Eminescu" in the capital. The nearest polling stations are at "Gheorghe Asachi" and "Spiru Haret" high schools, the State University of Moldova, and "Satiricus" Theatre. In Chișinău, voters can vote at any of the 13 polling stations.

List of polling stations in the Republic of Moldova for the election of Romanian members to the European Parliament:

Yesterday, June 8, voting for the European Parliament took place in the Czech Republic, Estonia, Italy, Latvia, Malta, and Slovakia. Across the entire European Union, the polls opened earliest in the Netherlands on Thursday and will close today. The first preliminary results will be known this evening, only after voting ends in all 27 member states of the Union. Preliminary results will be updated early Monday morning.

The European Parliament is the only body of the European Union directly elected by citizens, consisting of 720 MEPs representing the 450 million citizens of the community bloc. Romania will have 33 representatives in the European Parliament.
