EU Accession Talks for Moldova, Ukraine Fast-Tracked
Another European country has signed the letter drafted by Czech European Affairs Minister Martin Dvořák.
The letter calls for the official launch of accession negotiations for Moldova and Ukraine by the end of the month.
The Czech official revealed on social media that Denmark is the latest signatory. This brings the total number of signatories to 15, as confirmed by the Minister in an update to the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Earlier this month, the Czech Minister proposed approving the negotiating frameworks for Moldova and Ukraine in a letter to the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Czech letter urges the General Affairs Council to swiftly adopt the negotiating frameworks for both countries this month. The Council's unanimous approval is necessary to convene the intergovernmental conference with both countries before the end of June.
This development comes after Moldova and Ukraine applied for EU membership in March 2022 and were granted candidate country status in June 2022. EU leaders decided to open accession negotiations in December 2023.
