Peace Summit Stresses Nuclear Safety and Global Food Security

Any use of nuclear energy and nuclear installations must be safe, secure, guarded, and environmentally friendly. Ukrainian nuclear power plants and installations, including the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, must operate safely and securely under the full sovereign control of Ukraine and in accordance with IAEA principles and supervision.

This is one of the three conclusions drawn in a communiqué by participants at the Peace Summit in Ukraine, held in Switzerland.

The document also mentions that global food security depends on the uninterrupted production and supply of food products. In this regard, free, full, and safe commercial navigation, as well as access to the seaports of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, are essential. Therefore, attacks against commercial ships in ports and along their entire route, as well as against ports and civilian port infrastructure, are unacceptable, notes Reuters.

The third conclusion of those present at the Peace Summit in Switzerland is that all prisoners of war must be released in a full exchange. Ukrainian children deported and displaced illegally, as well as other Ukrainian civilians detained illegally, must return to Ukraine.

"We believe that, to achieve peace, the involvement of all parties and dialogue between them is necessary. Therefore, we have decided to take concrete steps in the future in the aforementioned fields, with the continued involvement of representatives from all parties. The Charter of the United Nations, including the principles of respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, can and will serve as the basis for achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine," the document states.

Additionally, the leaders of approximately 100 countries participating in the event had a comprehensive and constructive exchange of views on the various paths towards a framework for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, based on international law, including the UN Charter.

"In particular, we reaffirm our commitment to refrain from threatening or using force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, to respect the principles of sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of all states, including Ukraine, within their internationally recognized borders, including territorial waters, and to settle disputes through peaceful means, as principles of international law."

From June 15-16, the Peace Summit is taking place in Switzerland. Approximately 100 countries and organisations have gathered at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland to discuss a possible path towards peace in Ukraine. Russia was not invited to participate in the summit.
