European Integration: Moldova's Future within the EU
The future of the Republic of Moldova lies "within the European family." This statement stems from President Maia Sandu and was issued ahead of the intergovernmental conference that marks the official commencement of our country's negotiations for accession to the European Union.
"Today, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine officially commence negotiations to join the EU. Our future is within the European family," President Maia Sandu announced on social media.
The head of state expressed gratitude for the "steadfast support" from European leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission; Charles Michel, President of the European Council; and Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament.
President Maia Sandu's message is clear: "Together we are stronger."
In December 2023, the European Council decided to initiate accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. This decision followed the submission of EU accession applications by both states and their attainment of candidate country status two years ago.
Today, June 25, marks the official start of accession negotiations with the European Union, under the auspices of the inaugural EU-Moldova Intergovernmental Conference.
