Igor Grosu: Turkey's experience in the energy field might serve as example for the Republic of Moldova

Chisinau is interested in increasing trade with Turkey and attracting investments. The Republic of Turkey is a very important commercial partner for the Republic of Moldova, said the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, after the talks held in Ankara with his Turkish counterpart, Mustafa Şentop. "We talked about the situation in our region with the start of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, highlighting the biggest problems that Moldova is facing because of this," wrote the head of the Legislature from Chisinau in a post on his Facebook page.

As stated by the Moldovan Speaker, at the end of last year, "*trade between the both countries reached one billion US dollars", and for the year 2023, Chisinau aims to increase this figure "by increasing the export quotas of Moldovan fruits and wines, joint projects in the field of energy, infrastructure and construction".

"In the context of the world energy crisis, I underlined that the current government was interested in identifying as many diversification and energy efficiency projects as possible to reduce its dependence on suppliers who use energy resources for political purposes. Turkey's experience in this field can serve as an example for us, and we aim to cooperate as closely as possible in this area", said Igor Grosu.

The Moldovan official also referred to Turkey's important role in the negotiation process and finding peaceful solutions to stop Russia's unjust war in Ukraine. During the talks with his counterpart in Ankara, Igor Grosu declared that the Republic of Moldova "was making efforts to maintain peace and order in the country and to build a strong economy and a state that values and protects each of its citizens".

"In the context of the intensification of parliamentary diplomacy, we discussed bilateral projects, namely on the line of specialised parliamentary committees, but also within the Moldovan-Turkish friendship group", the President of the Parliament also wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, the Turkish authorities will continue to invest in educational projects to study the Gagauz and Romanian languages, carried out in the south of our country, so that ethnic Gagauz "feel as closely connected as possible to the Republic of Moldova".
