Petru Rotaru, appointed deputy governor of the NBM
The former Minister of Finance Petru Rotaru was appointed by the Parliament to the position of Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), for a term of 7 years. The decision was taken with the vote of 56 deputies. Rotaru declared, from the central tribune of the Parliament, that the decision to leave the head of the Ministry of Finance was a "benevolent" one.
"I was not forced to do this. It was voluntary ", declared Petru Rotaru.
Speaker Igor Grosu thanked Petru Rotaru for "all the effort" while he served as Minister of Finance, wishing him success at the NBM: "Congratulations and good luck in the new position".
Petru Rotaru was appointed deputy governor of the National Bank of Moldova and member of the Executive Committee of the National Bank of Moldova at the proposal of the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu.
He held the position of Minister of Finance from 2023. Previously, Petru Rotaru held the position of member of the Court of Accounts and director of the State Fiscal Service.
Under the legislation, the deputy-governors of the National Bank of Moldova are appointed by the Parliament, on the proposal of the governor of the National Bank of Moldova, with the vote of the majority of the elected deputies. They are appointed for a term of seven years, with the possibility of renewing the mandate.
