Bulgaria heads to snap elections
Bulgaria is heading to the seventh round of legislative elections in the last three years, after the third party tasked by President Rumen Radev to form a governing coalition returned the mandate on Monday, failing to get the necessary support for a majority, Reuters and EFE agencies report.
After the parliamentary group of the ITN party returned the third mandate for forming a government unfulfilled, President Rumen Radev is continuing with the procedure of appointing a caretaker government and scheduling a seventh early parliamentary election.
According to the latest amendments to the Constitution, the President, in consultation with parliamentary groups and on the proposal of the candidate for caretaker prime minister, appoints a caretaker government and schedules new elections within two months.
Moreover, Radio Romania News mentions that the deadline by which Sofia must send to Brussels the national nominations for a European commissioner in the new community executive is approaching.
The head of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, recommended that member states send the names of one man and one woman by the end of this month. Bulgaria, like the other states, has the option to keep its current commissioner, but it does not mean that he will have the same portfolio as in the old Commission.
Radio Romania News reporter, Vladimir Mitev, says that early elections in Bulgaria will take place on September 3, and the nominations for Brussels would be made by the future government.
