Knife attack at Berlin refugee centre injures Moldovan citizens
Two Moldovan citizens were injured in a knife attack carried out by a 21-year-old Algerian on the evening of August 13 at a refugee centre in Berlin.
They were hospitalised with injuries. Three other Moldovans were treated on an outpatient basis, and all those involved are now out of danger, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chișinău.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reported that the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Germany is in contact with the police authorities in Berlin, who are investigating the case.
"According to the preliminary data provided to our diplomatic mission by these authorities, the incident occurred as a result of a scuffle provoked by the alleged attacker, a resident of the dormitory, who first assaulted a visitor and a security guard at the institution, and then a group of people, including the Moldovan citizens," the cited source stated.
A 21-year-old Algerian injured seven people on Tuesday evening by attacking them with a knife. Five of the victims are from the Republic of Moldova. According to data provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the victims include a 15-year-old boy, two 20-year-old men, and two men aged 24 and 42.
