Stay cool: Moldova issues yellow heat alert for August 22-23

The State Hydrometeorological Service has issued a yellow heat warning for the central and southern regions of the Republic of Moldova, effective from August 22 to 23.

According to experts, maximum air temperatures are expected to range between +33°C and +35°C.

In light of this warning, doctors advise citizens to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the adverse effects of the heat wave. It is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, particularly between 11:00 and 16:00, to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration, and to wear loose, light-coloured clothing.

Furthermore, it is crucial to provide special protection for the elderly, children, and individuals with health issues, as they are most vulnerable to extreme temperatures. In urban areas, the "heat island" effect may exacerbate feelings of thermal discomfort, so it is advisable to avoid unnecessary travel and to seek refuge in shaded or cool environments.
