Moldova opens embassy in Kazakhstan to boost Central Asian ties
The Republic of Moldova will establish a new diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan, headquartered in Astana.
The government approved this decision today, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The new embassy will ensure a broader diplomatic presence for Moldova in the region and facilitate the establishment of relations with other Central Asian states, stated Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi.
"Kazakhstan is a regional power with significant economic and commercial potential, abundant energy resources, and a large Moldovan community. We aim to strengthen this relationship and better represent our country's interests in Central Asia generally, and in Kazakhstan specifically," declared Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kazakhstan is a significant market and a complex supplier of raw materials and energy resources.
Currently, Moldova is working to diversify its trade portfolio, particularly within the European Union or in its immediate vicinity. Thus, Moldova can leverage Kazakhstan's import potential while simultaneously attracting investments from private companies in this country.
The opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Kazakhstan will enhance the potential for economic, commercial, and investment cooperation with this country. Additionally, the mission will facilitate more dynamic political dialogue, support cooperation within international organisations, and open new investment opportunities. The Embassy's establishment in Astana is part of Moldova's effort to expand its consular diplomatic network, as outlined in the National Development Plan for 2025-2027.
