Expert: Republic of Moldova’s integration into the EU does not mean that our country will have to join NATO

During the election campaign, there will be more fakes launched by the Kremlin and some politicians with the aim of diverting the country's European course, claim the representatives of the Civic Initiative "Citizens for Europe". They aim to combat fake narratives, some myths such as the dangers presented by NATO and our country's accession to the European Union.

The integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union does not mean that our country will have to join NATO, said today, the program manager of WatchDog, Valeriu Pașa. According to him, of the 27 states that joined the European Union, 4 are neutral.

"Many countries in the European Union are NATO members, but the North Atlantic Alliance is a defensive military alliance, and the EU is a group of countries that collaborate both politically and economically. The European Union does not even have its own Army. Today there are states that are not NATO members. They have the status of neutrality as well as the Republic of Moldova. We do not campaign and do not tell the citizens how they should vote", said Valeriu Pașa.

Another lie is the idea that the integration of our country into the European Union will lead to inter-ethnic deterioration in the Republic of Moldova, said the representative of the Civic Initiative "Citizens for Europe", Dida Anedova. According to her, the rights of ethnic minorities are respected in every member country of the European Union.

"In Estonia, a Russian-language TV station is still active, some Estonian students learn Russian up to the 9th grade. In Romania, 7 percent of Romanian citizens speak Hungarian, their children study in schools with teaching in their mother tongue," said Dida Anedova.

According to the Civic Initiative "Citizens for Europe", most fake news is shared on the social networks Tik Tok and Facebook. The organization claims that many pro-Russian politicians invest money to promote propaganda messages on the Internet.
