Access restrictions to the Airport extended: Authorities cite security risks and high flow of passengers
The Border Police announces that the limited access measures in the Chisinau International Airport terminal are extended until October 31, 2024. Under the decision of the Risk Management Group, access to the terminal is allowed only to passengers with tickets and travel documents, authorized personnel and aircraft crews.
The Head of the Strategic Communication Section of the Border Police, Raisa Novițchi, explained that this extension of the restrictions was necessary to ensure a safe environment for both passengers and airport staff. "The measures are intended to facilitate a more efficient monitoring of the flow of people and to prevent incidents, given the security risks and intense aeronautical activity," Novițchi said.
Also, the authorities say that the Chisinau Airport registers an increased number of passengers, and the access of third parties would lead to crowding of the terminal, thus making it difficult to manage daily operations.
This June, the head of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, Ruslan Galușca, said that the attempts of the Șor group to destabilize the situation, including at the airport, led the Chisinau authorities to impose and subsequently to extend stricter rules at the entrance in the airport.
We remind you that the initial restrictions were introduced between May 1-16, 2024, amid the Easter holidays, when there was a large flow of passengers. These measures have been extended several times.
The Border Patrol urges passengers to come to the airport at least three hours before their scheduled flight to complete the necessary formalities and to avoid delays.
