Former President Igor Dodon, his wife and a doctor - suspected in a new criminal case
Ex-President Igor Dodon, his wife Galina Dodon and a doctor are suspects in a new criminal case, reports the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
The doctor allegedly holds and issues false official documents granting rights, according to anti-corruption prosecutors. In addition, the former President of the Republic of Moldova and his wife are suspected of holding and using false official documents granting rights.
According to law enforcement officials, on the basis of this document, issued by the medical worker under investigation, Igor Dodon allegedly asked the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice to allow him to leave the country, and Galina Dodon submitted the same request to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office says that on January 26, 2023, it initiated criminal proceedings for the commission of the offence under Article 361(2)(b) of the Criminal Code - "Making, possession, sale or use of false official documents, prints, stamps or seals, actions committed by two or more persons".
The former head of state has not yet commented on the PA charges.
Igor Dodon is the subject of a criminal case in which he is accused of illicit enrichment, passive bribery, treason, and acceptance of political party financing by a criminal organisation. This after in May 2020 MP Iurie Renita published a video showing Igor Dodon receiving a black bag from former politician Vlad Plahotniuc.
Subsequently, the Prosecutor General's Office announced that former Moldovan President Igor Dodon has been given another file. He has been charged with the offence of exceeding the powers of his office in the criminal case called "Energocom".
The former head of state pleads not guilty.
