December 1 - Romania's National Day. Maia Sandu: Romania is loved in the Republic of Moldova
Romanians from everywhere are celebrating today, December 1, Romania's National Day. The celebration is based on the most important moment in the history of the Romanians - the Great Union of 1918. The relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania are currently experiencing an unprecedented development, said the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, at the official reception offered by the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova.
"Romania is loved in the Republic of Moldova for the assistance we can rely on when it's hard for us, for the immense and unconditional help offered to our citizens, for the strong support given to the accession to the European Union. Romania is loved for the Romanian language, in which we grew up as in a parental home, and for the common history - a history of courage and the fight for freedom", says Maia Sandu. "Romania's National Day represents a moment of reflection for each of us regarding the responsibility we have to contribute to the development of national identity and to the appropriation, respect, preservation and promotion of national values, defining for every Romanian, in the country or abroad", reads the statement of the Embassy of Romania published on the Facebook page. Romania's National Day was established on December 1 immediately after the Revolution, by Law no. 10 of July 31, 1990. The same normative act established that the National Day on December 1 is also a public holiday and day off for all employees, reports HotNews. "The National Day represents a fundamental landmark for all Romanians, from within the country or outside the borders, a moment of remembrance of the historical act of December 1, 1918, an opportunity to reaffirm national consciousness and unity, the vision and fundamental objectives of the Romanian nation. The National Day is a symbolic landmark of our solidarity in the face of all the difficulties we have faced as a nation, which we have overcome and which we will continue to overcome, with confidence in our own strength", reads the press release of the Embassy of Romania. On December 1, 104 years ago, in 1918, the Great Assembly took place in Alba Iulia, which voted for the union of Transylvania with Romania, and consecrated what we now call Greater Romania. Romania was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of the Republic of Moldova in 1991. It was also then that the diplomatic relations between the two states began to be developed. Over the course of three decades, the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and Romania had both tense and very effective periods. Today, Romania is the strategic partner of the Republic of Moldova on the path of European integration and offers all the necessary support and assistance to overcome the energy crisis, develop the field of education, and strengthen the energy infrastructure. "The Republic of Moldova looks towards Romania with gratitude and hope. We are confident that we are on the right path and that we will succeed in bringing Europe home to us, including with the help of Romania. On both sides of the Prut, people want to live in peace and freedom, in a common prosperous European home. We thank Romania for staying close to us", said the president of the Republic of Moldova.
