Experts back Sandu’s government reshuffle to restore trust
On the “In Context” program on Moldova 1, experts emphasised the urgent need for substantive changes within Chișinău’s government team to address critical issues and restore citizens' trust.
President Maia Sandu recently signalled the potential for government restructuring, which experts view as a positive move, provided it is accompanied by concrete actions.
Rodica Pîrgari, a media monitoring expert, highlighted that while Sandu’s statements on reform are promising, they must be followed by effective measures. “We have seen encouraging signals from the head of state, who shows understanding of public dissatisfaction and appears ready to make corrections. […] It is crucial that this commitment does not remain at the level of statements but translates into real action,” Pîrgari stressed.
Pîrgari also suggested appointing figures from the right-wing opposition to government roles to bring a broader perspective on citizens’ needs. “PAS has withdrawn into a shell, limiting its view of reality. This isolation has contributed to public discontent,” she remarked.
Mihai Isac, an expert in Black Sea affairs, identified agriculture and the management of European funds as sectors requiring reshuffle, advocating for a skilled team to enhance efficiency. “Maia Sandu has borne the brunt of image setbacks not only due to the presidential administration's mistakes but also because of missteps by certain government members,” Isac noted.
Isac further proposed establishing a Ministry of the Diaspora to strengthen representation for Moldovans abroad. “There is a need for comprehensive programs to engage the diaspora not only politically but also economically,” he added.
Previously, Maia Sandu announced that government reshuffles could occur by year’s end, acknowledging that her team has made mistakes and must better meet citizens' expectations.
