Maia Sandu congratulates Donald Trump, signals stronger US ties

President Maia Sandu of the Republic of Moldova extended her congratulations to Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential election.

As the head of state, Sandu expressed her intent to further strengthen ties between the two nations. In a message on X, Sandu underscored the significance of the strategic partnership between Moldova and the United States, reiterating Moldova’s readiness for enhanced economic and security cooperation to benefit both countries.

“Congratulations, President Donald Trump, on your election victory,” Sandu wrote. “Moldova values its relationship with the United States, our strategic partner, and eagerly anticipates deepening our cooperation to ensure a more prosperous and secure future for our people.”

Notably, Donald Trump, the Republican candidate in the U.S. presidential election, declared victory during a large rally at his campaign headquarters in Florida. The vote counting continues, including in key battleground states; however, Trump appears to have already secured a majority in North Carolina and Georgia and leads in Pennsylvania, which would provide him with the remaining votes needed for victory.

To secure the presidency, Trump—who previously held office from 2016 to 2020—needs 270 electoral votes. He is currently credited with 267, compared to 214 for his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
