Cori Gauff makes history: Qualifies for WTA finals
American tennis sensation Cori Gauff has made history by qualifying for her first WTA Finals. In a thrilling semifinal match held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Gauff defeated world number one Arina Sabalenka by a score of 7-6, 6-3.
Sabalenka held a 6-5 lead in the opening set, but Gauff rallied to break serve and force a tiebreak, which she won 7-4. In the second set, Gauff dominated, establishing a 4-1 lead and ultimately securing the victory.
In the other semifinal, China's Qinwen Zheng triumphed over Czech player Barbora Krejcikova, winning 6-3, 7-5.
The highly anticipated final of the WTA Finals will take place on Saturday. The champion will receive a prize purse of over $4.4 million.
