During their conversation, Trump emphasised his readiness to collaborate with Abbas and other key stakeholders, both in the region and globally, "to bring about peace."

Relations between the two sides were significantly strained during Trump's first term, following his 2017 decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and move the U.S. embassy there.

Israel, a staunch ally of Washington, has been engaged in combat against the terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, while also facing Hezbollah along its northern border.
