Moldovans vote in Romania’s presidential elections for a better future
In the Republic of Moldova, thousands of citizens voted at the 59 polling stations set up for Romania's presidential elections.
Romanians on the left bank of the Prut River hope for a developed Romania, one represented internationally by a person of integrity, with a heightened focus on the Republic of Moldova.
"I voted, first and foremost, for an honest person, in my view, someone who can offer Romania a better future for its people, ensuring a prosperous and better life, not only for adults but also for the children who hope that the coming years will be different from the past 30."
"I voted for my country, Romania, which I love and cherish. I voted for a prominent individual whom I've known for many years and am familiar with his abilities. I believe he will take Romania to a new stage of development within the European Union."
"My expectation is that, at the very least, things in Romania do not worsen further. Romania should be on the European Union's map, as it truly deserves, in my view. It should be more active on the international stage, because these are the fundamental responsibilities of the president," say those who exercised their right to vote.
Romanians on the left bank of the Prut look toward a common future for the Republic of Moldova alongside Romania, within the European space and under the protection of strategic partners:
"So, I voted for the Republic of Moldova to stand alongside Romania in the European Union, under the umbrella of NATO and the United States. They help us greatly, and we must not be indifferent; we must recognize and evaluate the help from our brothers across the Prut. We are one people, one country, torn apart by Russia, and that is where we must return."
"There is room for improvement. There is much room for improvement, and I hope the new president will pay close attention to the Republic of Moldova," people said.
Adrian Dupu, the president of the PNL Diaspora – Republic of Moldova and state secretary of the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova in Romania's Government, also voted in Chișinău.
"I wanted to be among the first to exercise this right and duty toward Romania. I voted because I love my country and voted for a president who loves his country and Romania. A president who has proven that he fights for Romania in the position he has held so far. And I voted because I want Romania to be represented internationally by a person of integrity," said Adrian Dupu.
For the presidential elections, Romania has opened 950 polling stations abroad, which will be open for three days. Voting started at 12:00 today, and on Saturday and Sunday, polling stations will open at 07:00 and close at 21:00. A list of polling stations can be found on the Romanian Embassy's Facebook page or on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website - mae.ro.
In Romania, voting in the first round will take place only on Sunday. Romanians can cast their vote for one of the 14 candidates in the race.
