Ministry of the Environment launches a call for a project for water protection and waste management
The Ministry of the Environment has launched a new competition for project proposals funded by the National Environmental Fund for 2025. A total of 125 million lei will be allocated for this call. The competition aims to encourage initiatives from mayors and civil society focused on environmental protection, with an emphasis on two main areas: integrated water resource management and integrated waste management.
Projects related to integrated water resource management will focus on water protection, the prevention of pollution in rivers and lakes, and the rational use of water resources. Proposals eligible for funding in this category may include activities such as clearing river and lake beds, creating water protection buffer zones, bank stabilization efforts, reconstruction or reinforcement of flood protection dikes, and technical assessment of dams and water reservoirs.
In the area of waste management, the objective is to improve sanitation practices in local communities and develop the necessary infrastructure to minimize environmental impact. Proposals could involve closing landfills and purchasing waste management equipment.
“Additionally, three voluntary waste collection centers will be established. These centers will provide residents with the opportunity to bring in waste that cannot be collected through regular means, such as old furniture, mattresses, textiles, packaging, and used items made of glass or wood, as well as used electrical and electronic equipment and tires. Proper recycling or disposal of these items will help reduce pollution and protect the environment”, said the Minister of the Environment, Sergiu Lazarencu.
The Ministry is also committed to forest protection through the development of forestry arrangements, which outline sustainable forest management and exploitation practices to ensure proper regeneration and growth.
Mayors and representatives from civil society can begin submitting project conceptual notes starting today, November 12. Further information will be available in the guidelines published on the ONIPM website.
We remind you that following the previous call, 108 multi-year projects valued at a total of 235 million lei were selected for funding from the National Environmental Fund. The majority of these projects focused on integrated waste management, said Nicolae Arnăut, the director of the National Office for the Implementation of Projects in the Environment.
