Romanians will travel visa-free to the US as of 2025

As of January 1, 2025, Romanians will travel visa-free to the United States. This is after Romania met the visa refusal rate criterion for qualifying for the Visa Waiver Program, which fell below the three percent threshold imposed by American legislation. Now, the percentage is 2.61, according to the US Department of State. The announcement was made by the Romanian Embassy in Washington.

This year, Romanian citizens have filed over 80 thousand B1/B2 visa applications worldwide, double compared to the number filed in the previous fiscal year. American diplomatic and consular offices have granted over 78 thousand visas - a record number for this country.

“The process of Romania’s accession to the visa waiver program was extremely honest and transparent, and the assessment of the American authorities regarding Romania is almost complete. "Romanians will be able to travel to the United States without visas from 2025, offering this generation the chance to make their friendship with the American people even stronger and the opportunity to build an even more prosperous partnership," said Andrei Muraru, Romania's ambassador to the United States.
