Romania boosts Moldova's energy security

From January 1st to March 31st, Energocom will nearly triple its electricity purchases from the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, acquiring 100 MW.

This agreement, signed on December 19th, demonstrates the strong energy cooperation between Romania and Moldova.

Energocom announced that it has secured a preferential electricity supply agreement with Nuclearelectrica. The agreement caps the price at 400 RON/MWh (approximately 80 EUR/MWh) to support Moldovan consumers.

This significant support from the Romanian government will help ensure a reliable and sustainable energy supply for Moldova. By contracting additional electricity from Nuclearelectrica and supplementing it with renewable energy, Moldova can meet its peak demand through purchases from the Romanian OPCOM exchange.

During winter months, thermal power plants in Chisinau and Balti supply 25-30% of the electricity demand on the right bank of the Dniester River.
