IGP will use 20 smart cars to detect traffic violations

The national police uses 20 smart cars to detect traffic violations and eight more are to be put on the roads soon, the head of the General Inspectorate of Police, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, told Teleradio-Moldova. He said that, at this stage, no sanctions are applied for most types of violations fixed to carry out an analysis of these cases.

"We will completely switch the documentation process on the street to tablets, the pen and paper will disappear, we will no longer need them. The Contravention Code was recently amended, allowing us to use electronic signatures on tablets. We will provide all police crews and sectors with equipment and tablets," said Viorel Cernăuțeanu.

The IGP chief said that, in the last two years, the level of technical equipment of the Police has increased greatly, thanks to development partners, and 2025 will be the year of digitalization.

"We stop wanted vehicles from the first moment and transmit them to the body that is looking for them. The system of the respective means of transport can detect any violation. Its software even goes so far as to recognize the facial image if a person is wanted and detects their face, including notifying us of this," concluded Cernăuțeanu.

The Inspectorate's structures will be equipped with high-performance software and programs to detect crimes committed through artificial intelligence, said Viorel Cernăuțeanu.
