Rescue mission in Turkey: Moldovan rescuers keep intervening in risk areas

Moldovan rescuers on an international mission to Turkey continue their efforts to rescue earthquake victims. According to the IGSU, during the day of 10 February, IGSU employees examined 12 residential blocks for people under the ruins. Two bodies were found under the remains of the building materials.

Also yesterday, Moldovan rescuers, at the request of colleagues from the USAR-Mexico team, supported with the necessary technical equipment (thermal imager, video camera, laser) to identify the location of the victims trapped in a damaged block and rescue one person. A joint Mexico-MD team was formed to identify the location of the victim, who was then extracted by the Mexico module.

On February 11, the Republic of Moldova's urban rescue team will continue the search for the victims and will assess the condition of damaged buildings in order to enter the risk areas.

In the first hours after taking over the mission, Moldovan rescuers managed to save a three-year-old boy who had been trapped in the ruins of a block for more than four days. IGSU workers recovered the child alive and unharmed after several attempts to reach under the ruins of the block completely damaged by the earthquake.
