Moldova compensates businesses for rising electricity prices

The government has approved a mechanism to grant electricity compensation to businesses. For this purpose, 60 million lei will be allocated to compensate businesses for the price difference in electricity costs, following the increase in electricity tariffs.

According to the decision of the State Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE), half of the tariff difference (excluding VAT) will be compensated due to the electricity price increase, for a period not exceeding three months, within the available budget.

To benefit from compensation, eligible businesses must submit applications under their own responsibility, exclusively for electricity used in their core activities, through the government portal MCabinet/EVO. The portal will include a section for completing the application, which will be available starting January 27. The deadline for submitting compensation applications is 10 days from the date the electricity bill is issued.

Compensation will be available for businesses in agriculture, forestry, and fishing, excluding tobacco cultivation, and those in manufacturing, with exceptions for businesses producing oils and fats, margarine and similar products, beverages and tobacco products, and paints, soaps, detergents, and other chemicals.

The compensation amount will be deducted from costs when setting the prices of essential products on the domestic market.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization will monitor the partial compensation of the electricity price difference. This ministry will also develop a regulation under which these compensations will be calculated.
