Authorities deny Russian fake: “Chisinau has never blocked natural gas supplies on the left bank of the Nistru”

Chisinau has never blocked natural gas supplies to the left bank of the Nistru. The authorities in Chisinau have consistently called for an end to energy blackmail in the region. This statement was made by government spokesman Daniel Voda in response to accusations from Vadim Krasnoselski, the alleged leader in Tiraspol. Krasnoselski claimed during a meeting with Russian ambassador-designate Oleg Ozerov that the Republic of Moldova would obstruct the gas supply process, thereby prolonging the energy crisis in the region.

“The statements of the so-called leader in Tiraspol are a faithful copy of Moscow’s messages. It is not surprising that he is making them even in front of a Russian representative. The purpose of these statements is clear: to sow distrust between the two banks of the Nistru and to bring the public discussion onto a Russian track, devoid of real solutions,” said Daniel Vodă.

The spokesman for the executive reiterated that the energy crisis in the Transnistrian region was fabricated by Moscow on January 1, through the Gazprom ultimatum.

“The solution exists and is simple – compliance with the contract signed in 2021. We do not need inventions such as ‘humanitarian gas’ or fake interpretations of Moldovan legislation by Tiraspol. We can inform them about these provisions, from the first source,” Vodă noted.

In this context, the Government of the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to dialogue and cooperation, but “without compromising the interests of the Republic of Moldova and without giving up its commitment to peace and security on both banks of the Nistru.”

We remind you that the Russian concern Gazprom has suspended natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region since January 1. As a result, the situation generated massive disconnections from gas, hot water and thermal energy in most localities, including in the Security Zone.

After refusing the aid proposed by the authorities in Chisinau, the alleged leader of the Transnistrian region, Vadim Krasnoselski, paid a visit to Moscow, where he met with representatives of the Russian Ministry of Energy. Following the meeting, he announced that natural gas supplies from Russia to the region would soon resume, in the form of humanitarian aid.

In this regard, the companies Natural Gaz DC and Tiraspoltransgaz - a company affiliated with the Russian concern "Gazprom", concluded on Tuesday, January 14, a framework contract for the supply of natural gas to the Transnistrian region. The natural gas would be purchased on European exchanges, which means that Tiraspol would have to pay the full price for the gas for the first time.

The framework contract signed between these companies sparked controversy, being concluded without consulting Moldovagaz, although Tiraspoltransgaz is a subsidiary of it and accumulates debts of approximately 9 billion dollars to the parent company.
