Moldova enhances border security with new passenger data system
The Passenger Information Directorate has been launched in Moldova, granting law enforcement access to data on travelers planning to enter the country.

Currently, the system is implemented at the airport. Authorities emphasize that this measure will enhance security by facilitating the identification of potential criminals.
The Passenger Information Directorate is now fully operational and, for the time being, applies only to air travelers.
"This directorate will process and analyze passenger data received from airlines in real time. As soon as a traveler books a flight or prepares for departure, this information is immediately transmitted to the General Inspectorate of Border Police. Based on this analysis, we can assess potential risks and take preventive measures through targeted inspections," explains Sergiu Lesnic, head of the Passenger Information Directorate.
"What does this mean for travelers? First and foremost, a safer journey, improved Border Police services at border crossings, and a smoother, optimized control process for law-abiding travelers," states Ruslan Galușca, head of the Border Police.
"This directorate is a strategic tool for preventing and combating cross-border threats, offering a direct benefit to every citizen’s safety. In today’s rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape, access to timely information is critical," highlights Daniella Misail-Nichitin, Minister of Internal Affairs.
The passenger data analysis software will be provided free of charge for the first two years of use.
