Support for small farmers in the south of the country: construction of an agricultural hub in Căușeni

One of the biggest challenges for small farmers is the lack of space to store fruit and vegetables. For farmers in Căușeni, the problem will be solved by a modern storage and processing complex, which will be inaugurated this summer. Agri-Hub Căușeni will provide space for sorting, cleaning, cooling and packaging products.

The construction work of the new complex in Causeni is in full swing. It will provide access to technologies and a modern and energy-efficient infrastructure.

*“A refrigeration line for fruits, berries, and all crops that require more special refrigeration care will be installed because Moldovan farmers lack refrigerators," said Alexandru Donțu, the mayor of Causeni.

*“The exterior walls and roof will be made of sandwich panels, 100 mm thick. A refrigerator for cooling fruits and vegetables and a refrigerator are planned. A fruit and vegetable laundry and some offices for workers. During the construction, the idea of installing photovoltaic panels proved to be more energy efficient," said Sergiu Pruteanu, technical manager of Agri-Hub Causeni.

660 thousand euros were invested in this project, money provided by the European Union. The funding will help farmers in the region to have enough space to sort, store and pack their produce.

"This project is important for the region. We will support farmers with the possibility of preserving their products, fruits and vegetables. The implementers assured us that the project will be completed this year, because it is very important for producers, for this year's harvest," said Jānis Mažeiks, EU Ambassador to Chisinau.

The "Causeni Agri-Hub: Community Cooling and Processing Infrastructure" project is funded by the European Union and is implemented by the Căușeni City Hall. It is part of the "Mayors for Economic Growth" Facility, supported by the European Union, which supports the development of cities in the Eastern Partnership countries, including the Republic of Moldova. The project will be inaugurated in June this year.
