NATO boosts Moldova ties to counter Russian interference

NATO can assist the Republic of Moldova in countering Russian interference.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte indicated that the Allies are prepared to do more. Ahead of the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers, he highlighted his strong collaboration with President Maia Sandu, dating back to his tenure as Prime Minister of the Netherlands.
NATO and the Republic of Moldova continue their political dialogue on Russian interference in Moldova’s judicial system and democratic processes in Chișinău.
“We have a solid partnership with the Republic of Moldova, with Chișinău, with President Sandu. She visited me in December. We know each other very well, both in this role and from my time as Prime Minister of the Netherlands. We worked together effectively. Clearly, we are already doing a great deal, but whatever more we can do, we will. It is not always advisable to disclose everything. Let’s leave our adversaries guessing. But rest assured, our cooperation is strong,” stated Mark Rutte at the press conference ahead of the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Foreign ministers from allied countries will meet on Thursday, April 3, to establish priorities ahead of the NATO Summit in The Hague in June. On the agenda: increasing defense spending, revitalizing the military industry, and maintaining ongoing support for Ukraine. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to visit Brussels. Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sîbiha and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas will take part in the NATO-Ukraine Council.
