Moldova launches new university programs for modern jobs

Three new university programs, directly aligned with current workforce demands, will now be available for study in universities across Moldova.
The government decided on June 18 to expand the National Classification of Professional Training Fields and Higher Education Specialties. According to Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research, these new specialties will help modernize the university system and boost the appeal of study programs.
Following the government's decision, health studies have been expanded to include Medical Physics, and Bioengineering and Medical Devices. These programs will train specialists in advanced medical technologies.
To support the sustainable management of water resources and agricultural land, the Land Reclamation (Hydro-amelioration) specialty has been added to the architecture and construction field.
Additionally, universities will offer programs in Smart Agriculture to prepare specialists who will contribute to the digitalization and modernization of the agricultural sector by integrating IT technologies, robotics, and automated systems.
"Specifically, I'd highlight the new Smart Agriculture program — a direction that reflects our vision to integrate more IT, robotics, and innovation into agriculture. We also want to support the development of biomedical fields, biotechnologies, and medical engineering. We believe these new specialties will strengthen our academic offerings and meet the demands of a modern economy," stated Minister Dan Perciun during the government meeting.
It's worth noting that Moldova's curriculum was recently expanded to include professions in the green economy: solar heating and equipment installer, shallow geothermal systems and heat pump installer, and food product receiver/distributor. Courses for these three new qualifications will begin on September 1, 2025.
