Nicu Popescu after the meeting with Teresa Ribeiro: I emphasized the importance of the deoligarization commitment by eliminating the influence of private interests in the media field

Observation of the human rights, including freedom of expression and freedom of the media, as well as ensuring access to information, respecting the safety of journalists were discussed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu with the OSCE representative on freedom of the media, Teresa Ribeiro, who is paying a working visit in Republic of Moldova.

The head of diplomacy from Chisinau said that the Republic of Moldova managed to rise in 2022 by 49 positions in the Press Freedom Index published by Reporters Without Borders, now ranking 40th out of 180 countries, reads a press release of the institution. Also, during the meeting, the determination of the Republic of Moldova regarding the implementation of the deoligarization commitment by eliminating the influence of private interests in the media field was emphasized. In the context of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the numerous hybrid threats facing the Republic of Moldova were reiterated as well as the measures adopted to combat propaganda, disinformation and hate speech.
